Monster Hunter: World will not launch with cross-platform or mod support on PC

‘We don’t have anything to announce at this time’

With cross-platform multiplayer becoming more common, a lot of fans were hoping that the PC version of Monster Hunter: World would work with either the Xbox One or PS4 versions of the game. Capcom launched Street Fighter V with the ability, for instance, but that won’t be a reality for World.

Talking with PC Gamer, World producer Ryozo Tsujimoto confirmed that the game will not be supporting cross-platform play at release. The possibility is still in the air, but it won’t be a reality come next month. This also goes for mods, with Tsujimoto saying, “We don’t have anything to announce at this time.”

Mods are sort of a staple with PC ports, so I’m sure many people were expecting Capcom to ship Monster Hunter: World with mod support. If Square Enix can embrace the modding culture for Final Fantasy XV, why would Capcom be so different with its best selling game of all time?

With Capcom shunning platforms like GOG and having Denuvo integration for World, I get the feeling a lot of people are going to pass on Monster Hunter’s PC debut. While I don’t necessarily have a problem with the lack of mod support, cross-platform play is a real missed opportunity. Obviously, Sony wouldn’t be down with it, but there really is no reason that a Windows Store version couldn’t exist with Xbox One compatibility.
