Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak offers us ‘A Tour of the Citadel’

Garangolm Awaits

Capcom has offered up a double dose of gameplay footage from Sunbreak, the incoming DLC expansion to its great fantasy adventure Monster Hunter Rise. The two trailers focus on the expansion’s brand new locale of The Citadel, and give us a sneak peek at one of its terrifying overlords, Garangolm.

The Citadel will serve as a testing ground for Monster Hunter Rise veterans — its biomes of varying climates packed out with Master Rank quests and quarries. As you can see from the above video, The Citadel sports several unique areas, ranging from cold and frosted terrain to barren greenland.

When dusk settles, the whole region becomes bathed in a strange but surprisingly alluring purple neon glow. It looks gorgeous, but the land will still see you looking at the lights in a heartbeat. The centerpiece of The Citadel is the titular, long-abandoned castle, that today is reigned over only by the many dangerous beasts of the mysterious region.

And speaking of dangerous beasts, Capcom’s second video thrusts one such creature firmly into the spotlight. Garangolm is a brand new boss created specifically for the Sunbreak expansion, and rules over Elgado as one of the region’s legendary “Three Lords.” Alongside his brethren Malzeno and Lunagaron, Garangolm is sure to make quick work of any adventurer stepping into their domain unprepared.

From the video, we can ascertain that Garangolm is a major force to be reckoned with, using its immense girth and heavily armored appendages to dish out a serious case of blunt force trauma. If that wasn’t enough, then the gargantuan creature also has mastery of both Fire and Water elements, splattering its foes with magma fists, and even tearing up the terrain to use as projectiles. Hold!

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak launches June 30 on PC and Nintendo Switch. It will be available as a paid DLC download or, for those yet to purchase the original game, in a double pack alongside Monster Hunter Rise.
