Monkey Island writer Ron Gilbert is no longer required to stay quiet about the two-headed revival of the ancient LucasArts franchise. Gilbert recently updated his blog with a few thoughts about Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and Tales of Monkey Island. He also took the time to discuss a few important moments and scenes in the original game.
The post is an interesting read if you’re a fan of the series. Gilbert often drops nuggets of awesome, like this critical passage on Insult Sword Fighting:
While Insult Sword Fighting is one of the first things people think of when they hear Monkey Island, I thought it seemed little tedious (but fun) as I played though it again. There is a point where you say “I get it”, but your still forced to go though the motions again and again. If I was going to do Insult Sword Fighting in a future game, I’d make it more free form allowing the player to be clever and construct their own sentences.
Gilbert makes a man want to play Monkey Island again. Good thing we’ll all be able to experience the majesty of the original game later this summer when LucasArts drops its updated version of Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition.
