The DMZ mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 offers a different kind of challenge with the open map, and you have to choose your weapons accordingly. While you’ll mostly depend on guns that you have unlocked, you can also equip anything you find as loot.
In this guide, I will analyze how each weapon performs in the current meta.

Complete Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ weapons tier list
To separate all the available weapons, I have used four different tiers.
- S-tier weapons are the safest choices in terms of balance and performance. You can freely invest your resources in leveling these guns up.
- A-tier weapons are close to S-tier when it comes to performance, but you’ll have to finetune the build more.
- B-tier weapons are average at best, and they’re situational at best.
- C-tier weapons aren’t suitable for the DMZ mode.

S-tier
| Weapon | Reason |
|---|---|
| Han 86 | This feels like the best overall weapon of the game. It has great range, and the recoil is easy to control for beginners. Aside from close range, Han 86 is the safest choice you can make in this mode. |
| M4 | This was my favorite game in the previous DMZ, and nothing has changed. It’s versatile, deadly, and easy to manage. It’s slightly weaker in long range unlike Han 86, but it doesn’t have any other weakness. |
| PPSh-41 | Despite having a limited range, the PPSh-41 is an armor shredder. It’s massive drum magazine allows you to pump bullet after bullet into enemies. However, this is suitable for those who love to play aggressively. |
| ISO Nightshade | Equally effective as the PPSh-41, the Nightshade has a different playstyle. If you’re someone who wants to be on the constant move, |
| X-58 NYX | The NYX is the most beginner friendly SMG to use in DMZ. With the correct loadout, it can do as much damage as the Nightshade. |
A-tier
| Weapon | Reason |
|---|---|
| Kastov 762 | Amazing damage but requires a lot of control with the poor recoil. |
| Rezi 12 | The best shotgun in the entire game, and probably the best option in close range operations as well. |
| Type 73 | Great damage and range potential that’s let down by the poor handling issues. |
| MAR-9 | Great DMR option for beginners as the semi-automatic firing makes it easy to manage its recoil. |
| FINN LMG | While the FINN suffers at longer rangers, it makes up for it with controlled firing and damage. |
| Signal 50 | A long-range sniper rifle that does everything well (but doesn’t specialize in any role). |
| KG-7 | It has lower damage but higher firing rate than standard sniper rifles. |
| Warlord | Offers better fire rate than the Rezi, but reload times are high. |
| Mosin-Nagant | Despite the poor reload system, this classic can one shot enemies if they’re not armored properly. |
| APOC-338 | While the gun does insane damage, the recoil can be a nightmare for beginners. |
For B and C tiers, I haven’t explained much. I really don’t like using them, and some of them are yet to be assessed. Hence, there could be some changes in the future.
