When we aren’t being jerked around by Ubisoft, talking about a Beyond Good & Evil sequel, we are getting push-and-pulled by EA over the Mirror’s Edge sequel that we all want so bad. Well, good news then! EA Labels President Frank Gibeau recently said that a sequel isn’t a matter of if but “when and how.”
“It’s on the list. It’s just about looking at what teams are available, who’s got the right quality approach to it, and who understands it,” Gibeau said, in a recent Game Informer interview.
That last part is where things get complicated. In early 2011, development on the sequel was postponed. Later last year, Gibeau said the Mirror’s Edge sequel will run on Frostbite 2 (Battlefield 3‘s engine) — hinting that a sequel hasn’t been completely canned.
“We love Faith. We love the property. It’s really about how and when do you bring it back?” Gibeau said.
While it makes me happy to hear EA is confident in making this sequel happen, I worry it ever will come about, looking at the project’s shaky history. I’m also worried that the game will be some sort of free-to-play multiplayer-shooter travesty when it does arrive. For now, all we can do is put blind-faith in EA. Surely, that can’t lead to disappointment!
