Microsoft worked with Blizzard to get Diablo III to 1080p on Xbox One

I had a chance to test out Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition on the PS4 and it’s pretty fantastic. At a cool 1080p and 60fps the game runs great, but on the Xbox One, it wasn’t always that way. To upgrade to 1080p from 900p Xbox One owners will have to get the day-one update — an update that we have recently learned is at the insistence of Microsoft.

According to Digital Foundry, Microsoft challenged Blizzard to ensure that the Xbox One would hit that 1080p mark. Blizzard’s John Hight states it plainly, saying, “That’s why we made the decision to drop to 900. That’s what we demoed and were showing around E3 time. And Microsoft was just like, ‘This is unacceptable. You need to figure out a way to get a better resolution.’ So we worked with them directly, they gave us a code update to let us get to full 1080p.”

Sounds like Microsoft is sick of the “Xbox 900” remarks. They also should have been this vigilant from the start about feature parity.
