Now is the time, friends. Now is the time to get our hopes up really high that the Mortal Kombat short that we saw a few days ago is going to actually be made into a really awesome movie. Believe now before reality starts to crush our hopes and dreams. We’ve heard from Jeri Ryan on the subject, but it seems that Michael Jai White is a little closer to the project and he brings more hope.

White is evidently a big fan of the series and that is part of the reason he jumped in to make the short and star as Jax (who he says would still have metal arms). When asked why they made the short he said, “The reboot of this type of franchise is the type of thing people want to see. [Director] Kevin Tancharoen’s view of it is great. That’s why I jumped in. We wanted to do the things we’d like to see. This dark, gritty feel — along with the action — is a no-brainer.”

As far as the movie actually getting made, that seems to be much less of a “no-brainer.” White said that the movie will be made “If Hollywood is cool enough to get on board.” Sorry, Mr. White, as someone who sees almost every movie released I have to tell you that Hollywood is not that cool, not that cool at all.
