Mewtwo debuts in Pokemon Go in Japan, already nerfed

Too powerful

Another Pokemon Go festival is being held right now in Yokohama, Japan, and it’s going over a lot smoother than the Chicago one. Well, there was one issue (the livestream that was set to debut Mewtwo was canceled due to a technical problem), but everything else is reportedly fine, and people can actually catch the Pokemon they went to the event for, so all is mostly well.

That includes Mewtwo, which several folks have bagged on a “basically flawless” connection. Mewtwo is joined by shiny Pikachus and Raichus, as well as several other rare Pokemon (including regional exclusives like Mr. Mime). Hilariously, Niantic issued a hotfix during the event that nerfed its stats.

It’s not known yet whether or not Mewtwo will barrel out of Japan this week, but rumors point to a release tomorrow now that the final legendary bird (Zapdos) raid is ending tonight. So far in terms of legendaries Niantic has dropped Lugia, Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, and of course, Mewtwo, in order.
