Mess of men make Middle-Earth in Minecraft

It seems like every week someone creates something new and utterly absurd in Minecraft. With people making everything from a to-scale replica of Hogwarts, a massive network of music boxes that play Portal‘s “Still Alive”, a 3D printer or even the planet Earth, each project blows the old ones away.

This time around, a group of guys has recreated the entirety of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-Earth. It’s not full-size, with some parts being 1:4 and 1:3 scale, but it’s still damned impressive.

The video follows a tour host with a few of the people that helped put it all together as they show off a few bits. Rivendell and the Mines of Moria are by far the most incredible parts of the video, shown off at 28 minutes and 33 minutes in, respectively. Several rooms in Moria are so large that the game engine cannot render them, and instead displays the sky. And it was all built by hand.
