Mega Ran and JP chip artists to remix Mega Man once more

Contributers include composers of Street Fighter IV, Streets of Rage 3, and Ape Escape

Mega Man rapper Mega Ran may have recently dropped a stellar Castlevania hip hopera album, but he’ll never forget the little blue dude who propelled his music career, resulting in his decision to leave his teaching gig and focus on his tunes full time. Even though he claims to want to move on from Mega Man music, that didn’t stop him from whipping up a remastered fifth anniversary CD of his original Mega Ran album. Just goes to show, you can’t keep a good bot down!

From June 19 through June 29, Ran will be touring Japan, partnering with many notable artists from the Japanese chiptune scene in order to produce one last — you sure this time? — remix LP of his Mega Ran tracks. What kind of notable artists, you ask? How about Hideyuki Fukasawa, composer of Street Fighter IV, as part of the electronic group Denshi Kaimen? Or Soichi “Omodaka” Terada, composer of Ape Escape? And what about Motohiro Kawashima, who had previously collaborated with Yuzo Koshiro on Streets of Rage 2 and 3?

To address the finance situation, Ran has opened up a Kickstarter page, which will also help in producing a Blu-ray tour documentary. You may notice that the campaign ends on July 12, well after the tour will have concluded. Not to worry, as Ran has assured me that people who request time sensitive rewards — namely the plane ticket to go see the tour in person — will receive their gifts in time for the shows, regardless of whether or not the campaign winds up being successful! What have you got to lose?
