Mech game Heavy Gear Assault gets a Kickstarter

Developer Stompy Bot resurrects the franchise

Developer Stompy Bot Productions has launched a Kickstarter for a new mech game called Heavy Gear Assault, based on the popular Heavy Gear franchise. Their goal is $800,000 for this free-to-play multiplayer shooter, and only a PC version is planned at this time.

It uses the Unreal Engine 4, and even in the prototype screenshot provided it’s looking pretty good, so I’m hopeful for the project. For younger folks, Heavy Gear is based off of a property owned by Dream Pod 9, which includes tabletop, role playing, card games, and more.

The Heavy Gear videogame series was a staple franchise in the Carter household. Alongside of GeNOME, Mech Warrior, Omega Boost, Armored Core, and many others, Heavy Gear helped cement the mech genre in the ’90s. I hope this new game lives up to the name.
