Maxis confirms Spore coming to consoles, no one surprised

During a behind-closed-doors demo of Spore at this year’s Leipzig Game Convention, Maxis’ Patrick Buechener has confirmed that console versions of Will Wright’s ambitious title are likely.

This should surprise no one — seeing how Electronic Arts and Maxis have milked the Sims franchise should have been enough to tip anyone off regarding the future of Spore. While the console versions of the game will not ship alongside the PC and Nintendo DS versions, the game should evolve into a console game before too long. And a board game. And a fruit snack.

There’s still no solid release date, but 2008 seems likely. Weren’t we saying that about 2007 last year?
