Max Payne (and others) derezzed for 8-bit home computers

Recommended Videos

What if, instead of Max Payne 3, the next chapter in the saga was a retro throwback for old-ass computers like the ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64? You watch the video above and, at first, it doesn’t look all that bad. Then you get to the actual “in-game footage” and realize you just dodged a bullet big time! God, I feel sorry for kids who had to play on one of those because they didn’t have an NES. Not even that! A friggin’ Master System would have been preferable!

This short was animated by Balázs Kalocsai, who posts a lot of 8-bit downgrades of videogames and more on his YouTube channel Majami Hiroz. The videos are quite polished indeed, marrying the flatness of the sprites with some CG techno magic. Kinda like 3D Dot Game Heroes, only not as 3D-y.

After the jump, I’ve posted his vids of 8-bit Assassin’s Creed, Red Dead Redemption, and Batman: Arkham City. They are quite enjoyable indeed.
