Marvel Snap’s long-awaited improvements to card acquisition arrive in just a few weeks

It sounds good in theory, but in practice, it remains to be seen.

Marvel Snap’s latest efforts to improve card acquisition in its game, Snap Packs, will be coming in just a few short weeks, and its developer Second Dinner today revealed more of what to expect from them.

In a lengthy new video, Marvel Snap detailed how Snap Packs will work when they drop in their now-confirmed release date of April 29, just a few short weeks away. And in theory, it sounds like a better system than what was in place before.

In place of the current Spotlight Cache system where players use Spotlight Keys to open a weekly cache that has one new card and other special variants, Snap Packs will give players more agency in what they are chasing after.

Snap Packs will appear in the Cards section of the shop, while cosmetics will stay in a new section named Offers. There will be Seasonal Series packs for Series Three, Four, and Five, which contain new cards from the last couple seasons of the game for players who want to catch up on whatever’s newest and “meta,” while Collector’s Packs will field “older” cards for players who are trying to complete series and collections. You will be able to inspect and see what’s possible to pull out of each pack before opening one.

The biggest question on players’ minds is pricing, and the video revealed that the Snap Packs will be priced as such below:

Snap Pack typePrice
Series 3 Collector650 Tokens
Series 4 Collector2,000 Tokens
Series 5 Collector4,500 Tokens
Seasonal Series 42,500 Tokens
Seasonal Series 55,000 Tokens
Newest Series 5 card6,000 Tokens

The new Tokens will be converted from existing Collector’s Tokens, so the newest card of each week will retain the same price as a Spotlight Cache right now, but Token Packs can soon be bought for Gold, on top of 50 free Tokens per day.

It will be 1,300 Gold for 1,000 Tokens, 3,100 Gold for 2,500 Tokens, and 6,000 Gold for 5,000 Tokens, so it will remain pricy for those who are looking to “whale,” but collecting Tokens as a free-to-play player will still be possible in this evolving new way of acquiring cards.

“This is the beginning of a new system that’s very flexible and that we can build off of,” said Matt Ricchetti, senior director of product at Second Dinner.
