Earlier today we reported that Legendary Pictures were in negotiations to acquire Gears of War developer Epic Games. According to Epic vice president, Mark Rein, the takeover isn’t going to happen. In a conversation with Develop, Rein called the reports of negotiations “just another rumor.”

Unfortunately, the Epic exec wasn’t willing to comment on the substance of the rumor. Instead, he reiterated the same statement he gave Variety earlier today by saying that Epic were “very excited” about the Gears of War movie and have the “highest regard” for Legendary Pictures.

I’m glad Mr. Rein has respect for Legendary Pictures (300, Batman Begins), but I’m still wondering why Rein wasn’t able to outright deny negotiations. Even though Legendary churns out some quality flicks, I still wouldn’t want them meddling in my videogames. It’s like pouring coffee over the top of your cereal in the morning.
