20-year-old murdered in seemingly random act
20-year-old Calvin Riley was shot and killed this weekend while wandering San Francisco’s Aquatic Park, near popular tourist destination Fisherman’s Wharf, with a group of friends while playing Pokemon Go. He was shot in the upper torso from behind around 10PM.
A family friend, John Kirby, said, “From what we know, there was no confrontation. There was nothing said back and forth. It was just senseless, just came up and shot in the back and ran away for nothing.” U.S. Park Police Sgt. Robert Jansing said the assailant didn’t attempt to rob Riley or take any of his possessions after the shooting, and that, “There doesn’t appear to be any outstanding motive right now.”
Riley, who went to high school in San Mateo, was studying kinesiology and pitching for the baseball team at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton.
Jansing said thus far there are no witnesses who have seen the gunman, who has not been apprehended. Anyone who was at the park on Saturday around the time of the killing is encouraged to call the U.S. Park Police tip line at (415) 561-5150.
