Make way for GameLife’s dad: Video Masters TV

Recommended Videos
As princes of the Awkward Game Players’ Society, the boys over at GameLife haven’t really had much by way of competition. They’ve got the market cornered. So you can imagine my surprise when I was referred to a production entitled Video Masters TV — could it be true? Another awkward gaming show on the internet? Holy crap, I can hardly wait! I watched and sure enough the host, John Gibson, didn’t quite fit the role as defined by G4 or anything, but imagine my surprise when I learned that he was not only intelligent, but being an older gamer, extremely well informed on classic gaming. Hell, one of their episodes even has a Sin and Punishment review. Think of it as the US counterpart to Consolevania.
The show is a bit rocky at points, but it’s extremely well-executed for an amateur gig — hell, I dunno if you could even call it that. Gibson’s been working the homebrew gaming TV gig since 1995 (episodes which can also be seen on YouTube) and, judging by the guy’s age, he’s probably been playing games since the industry was just getting to its feet. Watch, enjoy, and be sure to check out the slew of other Video Masters TV episodes, both recent and decade-old.
Hit the jump for onesuch hilarious clip from Gibson’s 1993 show, Game Power, where he totally dorks out over Metroid passwords and Super Castlevania IV. Check this out! It’s totally fresh!
Sorry, John. Nothing but love for you.
