M.U.L.E. gets a sleek new look, continues to torment me

M.U.L.E. Now there’s a game I’ve heard a heck of a lot about, but was never really able or willing to fidget around with for long enough to “get it.” Now that I think about it, sitting down and learning to not suck at this resource management game would’ve helped to make Econ 212 less of a bummer.

As discovered by Shacknews, Planet M.U.L.E. is now officially a go. Self-described as a “remake and tribute” to the ’80s original, it not only looks the part of a sophisticated indie darling, it plays like one too. As one of the early fathers of multiplayer, it’s nice to be able to say this updated version is online-enabled.

Like a fool, I attempted to jump right in without reading up on the recommended literature. Between wasting my first turn with a trip to the pub and making a bigger fool of myself at the auction house, I was just glad this wasn’t a live multiplayer session I was attending. Forgive me, Planet M.U.L.E. AI.

Then, I found a dead moose rat and sold its carcass for $50. At that point, it became apparent there was no topping my recent success, so I quit while I was ahead. It was an eventful ten minutes, to say the least.
