Luftrausers goes color while Vlambeer goes live stream

Upcoming game to be developed on live stream

On last Sunday’s Sup Holmes (now on iTunes) we were joined by the unflappable Rami and J.W. of Vlambeer fame. The reveled the path of near-cancellation and eventual success of Ridiculous Fishing, the origins of their unique style, the impact that their conflict-friendly interpersonal relationship has on their development process, their rapid prototyping process, their collaborators (including Zack Gage, Davey Wreden, and many others), Microsoft’s current failures at courting small developers, tips on making fun videogames, and perhaps most importantly, the latest scoop on their upcoming projects.

First we have Luftrausers, which is about to blow on the PS3, PS Vita, PC, Max, and Linux. We learned that the game can be “won” in less than a minute if everything comes together perfectly, but few will ever achieve this feat. Most will play the game for hours, gaining new weapons, tackling waves of enemies, discovering new idiosyncrasies on every play through, all while blowing stuff up at a constant rate. It’s never the same game twice. We also learned that Vlambeer has turned to some of their favorite developers to help create custom color palettes for Luftrausers. The default game will still be presented in sepia tones, but there will be a series of alternate visuals included in the package as well. Sounds like a deal!

Perhaps the most exciting was the news that Vlambeer is hard at work on their next release. They wouldn’t tell us much about it, but we do know that they’ll be streaming much of the development of the game live, involving fans with the process as they go. While you may not land yourself a king’s position on the development team any time soon, you can bet that no good idea will be left wasted, so you might as well get involved and see what happens.

Thanks again to Vlambeer for joining us on the show, and tune in this Sunday when we welcome Graham and Chris from Drinkbox Studios (Guacamelee, Mutant Blobs Attack) to the program. It’s going to be pretty good.
