Lost Planet film story not based on Lost Planet games

Most (okay, all) videogame to film adaptations are only loosely based on their source, and it sounds like the previously announced Lost Planet film will follow suit.

“[There] probably [won’t be] so much of a reference to this particular title [Lost Planet 2],” Lost Planet producer Jun Takeuchi told G4. “However, the only thing I know is those people working on the project that they love the world of Lost Planet. So, we know that they’re going to utilize that world, but as far as the story line goes, the movie is completely different from the game.”

But let’s stifle our collective groans — David Hayter (Solid Snake’s voice, co-writer of the Watchmen film) is working on the screenplay, and Capcom’s Keiji Inafune is on board for the project as well. We like those guys, right? We can trust Capcom, right? I mean, just look all of the Street Fighter and Resident Evil movies! Right!?

Guys…?
