Go the distance

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 presents players with a variety of unique challenges, each requiring different strategies to complete. While some challenges are relatively easy, such as achieving a headshot or melee kill, others can prove to be quite difficult, such as the longshot kills.

This is particularly a challenging task because each weapon has a specific distance that must be maintained in order for the kill to count as a “long shot”. In addition, some of the game’s weapon mastery camos require players to hit these long shots in order to unlock them.

If you’re having difficulty landing longshot kills, don’t worry, as this guide will provide you with all the information you need to succeed.

All about longshot kills

Firstly, it’s important to understand the requirements for a longshot kill. To achieve a long shot, you must kill an enemy from a distance that is greater than the weapon’s predetermined range for a standard kill. This distance varies for each weapon to make it fair since determining the same range for a shotgun and sniper will be impractical. Before moving further, you must know the distance required to hit a longshot kill.

  • Shotguns – 12.5 meters
  • Pistols – 20 meters
  • SMGs – 30 meters
  • LMGs – 38 meters
  • Battle Rifles – 38 meters
  • Assault Rifles – 38 Meters
  • Marksman Rifles – 38 meters
  • Sniper Rifles – 50 meters

It’s important to choose the right weapon when attempting to land longshot kills. Battle Rifles, Assault Rifles, Light Machine Guns, and Marksman Rifles all have the same longshot range, but the Marksman Rifle is the best option for consistently landing longshot kills due to its accuracy and stability.

Using attachments such as the XTEN Angel-40 Optics can also be highly effective, as it provides distance information while scoping, allowing for more precise shots. Another effective strategy is to camp at high vantage points, as this can give you a better view of the battlefield and increase your chances of catching enemies rotating out of battles.

In addition, it’s important to create your own unique strategy and select specific game modes that align with it. For example, game modes such as Team Deathmatch and Domination may be more conducive to landing longshot kills due to longer engagements.

When selecting maps, keep in mind that some maps are more suited for longshot kills than others. Maps such as Taraq, Farm 18, and Embassy offer more open spaces and clear sightlines, making it easier to take out enemies from a distance. On the other hand, maps like Shoot House and Al Bagra Fortress are not the best for this purpose.
