This trip to Japan for the Tokyo Game Show wasn’t my first, and I certainly hope it won’t be my last, but I’m still and will probably always be amazed at how strange this place is. It seems like the stranger things are, the more they seem Japanese. Are they shooting for that?
In the rest of the world, advertising anti-virus software usually involves claims of success and security and brand strength. In Japan, apparently, it involves two-story tall inflatable action heroes and paid actors to act like virus villans in a mock jail cell. Even wierder: I seriously came across four dogs sitting in a row with sunglasses on in Harajuku this afternoon. And don’t even get me started on Japanese television. Only here in Japan can you see televised bare breast soda can crushing.
