Lightning Returns gets new E3 trailer, delayed to 2014

Snow Villiers returns

The follow-up to the incredibly polarizing duo of Final Fantasy XIII games, Lightning Returns, has been delayed until 2014. Specifically, it’ll hit North America on February 11th, 2014, and Europe on February 14th. A new trailer is here just in time for E3 which gives us a closer look at the game, including the return of hero Snow Villiers from the core games proper. Right now, it’s only slated for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but a next-gen reveal could be in the cards next week at E3. An Ultimate Box with all three XIII games has been spotted by All Games Beta, but right now it’s only announced for Japan.

You’ll only be able to control Lightning in the game, who has access to a number of different “schema,” that change her role and ability layout. Each scheme has a different ATB gauge, so switching constantly is the key to unleashing more attacks — in that manner, the game focuses more on action than past games. Even though I really dig the sound of the fast paced action system I’m not entirely sold yet, and I hope it’ll be a worth addition to the world of Fabula Nova Crystallis.
