The Java4K competition is an annual competition between programmers to create games in Java that are no more than 4kb in size. The competition began back in 2002 and the 2009 tournament started up just last month. There are a number of 4kb games already in the tournament, but the one that is making the rounds on the gaming blogs at the moment is Left 4k Dead by Markus Persson.

The game is inspired by Valve’s Left 4 Dead and sees the player fighting off an endless horde of zombies as they try to escape the level. There is no sound, but the lighting in the game is pretty amazing considering that this is just under 4kb in size.

I get to about 400 points before I give up, as I can’t find the exit. Give the game a try for yourselves and post your scores in the comment. How many points can you get?
