Lead & Gold features Wild West shootouts, barrel holding

The Wild West is a perfect subject for videogames. The mythic adventures of cowboys, lawmen and outlaws in America lend themselves so well to the medium that one wonders why there haven’t been more games based during the time period. One of the aspects of the genre that lends itself perfectly to gaming is the shootout, but aside from some lackluster multiplayer in a few western games there hasn’t really been a great way to get your friends together and try to rob a bank or duel at high noon. Lead & Gold: Gangs of the Wild West is trying to change that by offering up a Western-based, multiplayer game where the main focus is having the best shootout you can.

The game’s debut trailer is below and you can see that it is entirely developed around multiplayer action that involves guns, explosions and guys running around while they carrying barrels. I’m not so sure about the last part, but developer Fatshark AB seems to have something interesting on their hands. The game doesn’t have a release date, nor do we know what platforms it will be coming out for, but it will be entirely downloadable no matter what it eventually lands on. I’m especially hopeful that the showdown at the end of the trailer is actually a gameplay mechanic in which any match that ends in a tie is settled via quick draw between each side’s top ranking player. I seriously doubt it, but that would be awesome.
