Kojima’s ‘Top 15 Films’ hint that he probably really likes Spike TV

Japanese media retailer Tsutaya is running a Metal Gear Solid promotion online, listing the 15 favorite films of developer Hideo Kojima, the creative mind behind Konami’s popular series.

The list (spotted by Siliconera) is heavy on the Western action films, and reads like a Spike TV weekend “Movies for Guys Who Like Movies” marathon:

  • The Guns of Navarone
  • The Great Escape
  • Goldfinger
  • 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • Planet of the Apes (original work)
  • The Deer Hunter
  • Dawn of the Dead
  • Full Metal Jacket
  • Predator
  • Die Hard
  • Heat
  • Black Hawk Down
  • Children of Men
  • Bourne Series
  • 007 Casino Royale

It’s hard to argue with any of these, as they’re all great examples of solid, action/suspense cinema. It is a bit disappointing that there are no real curveballs on this list, though. It’s not that surprising, though; while Kojima’s work is always well-crafted, they’re relatively pretty transparent in terms of media that influenced it.

Can you make all of the connections between these films and Metal Gear Solid, Snatcher, or Kojima’s other works?
