Kirby’s Dream Collection Challenge stages dream big

While the majority of the upcoming Kirby’s Dream Collection is made up of previously released content (Kirby’s Dream Land, Kirby’s Dream Land 2, Kirby’s Adventure, Kirby’s Dream Land 3, Kirby Super Star and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards), there is a little bit of new stuff here. There are 10 challenge levels that appear to use the engine from last year’s Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, and they look pretty great.

I’ve always been a little lukewarm to the Kirby games. I’ve always liked them but rarely loved them. They tend to feel too unfocused to grab and keep my attention for any length of time. That doesn’t seem to be the case with these challenge levels. From the looks of it, they bring an intensity to the direction and pacing that you don’t always get with the series. It’s the style of these challenge levels, and the pure amount of content in this collection (including a CD soundtrack and art book) that has convinced me to pick up when it released on Sept. 16th.

"Where do dreams end and reality begin? Videogames, I suppose."- Gainax, FLCL Vol. 1 "The beach, the trees, even the clouds in the sky... everything is build from little tiny pieces of stuff. Just like in a Gameboy game... a nice tight little world... and all its inhabitants... made out of little building blocks... Why can't these little pixels be the building blocks for love..? For loss... for understanding"- James Kochalka, Reinventing Everything part 1 "I wonder if James Kolchalka has played Mother 3 yet?" Jonathan Holmes
