Just in case you were worried, ‘civilians being impaled by demon tentacles’ ensures Devil May Cry 5’s Mature rating

I’m pretty pumped for Devil May Cry 5.

The demo was pretty great, the cast looks varied and the framerate is on point. Now I just have to wait to see if the rest of the game’s pacing holds up. It seems like it’s going to be living up to its M for Mature legacy, as the ESRB has just rated Devil May Cry 5 with the very same category. Here’s the full rundown following a basic game description (note that there aren’t any major spoilers present):

“Battles are highlighted by gunfire, screams of pain, and slow-motion finishing moves/highlights. One cutscene depicts civilians screaming in pain while being impaled by demon tentacles. Blood appears frequently during combat and stains several environments. Some female characters are depicted partially nude, with their breasts and buttocks minimally covered by blood, light, or clothing. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” appear in the dialogue.”

A lot of folks were scared that this would be a neutered version of Devil May Cry but it sure doesn’t seem so! I mean the car-eating gigantic demon in the very first trailer probably should have tipped you off before this ESRB description came to light.
