Just Add Water working on Abe’s Oddysee HD

Oddworld brainfather Lorne Lanning has revealed that Just Add Water is working on a full HD remaster for the classic PlayStation title, Abe’s Oddysee. On the one hand, it’s sad to see that it won’t be an all-new game. On the other, it’ll be cool as Hell to see that game in HD.

Abe HD is going into production,” revealed Lanning. “It’s basically Abe’s Oddysee being redone in a 3D physics engine as a 2D side-scrolling platformer. So the way Just Add Water wants to approach it, we thought was very smart; they are not trying to reinvent any wheels. It’s like, ‘Can we make that experience in a new engine, with new tech, in the old way?”

This news comes in addition to the previously revealed Stranger’s Wrath HD, which is coming to the PlayStation Network. Lanning has said that an Xbox Live Arcade version is ready to go, but that they keep being told they can’t release it for some reason. Boo!

There are six planned Oddworld projects in the works. I’m crossing my fingers that Abe HD sells well enough to make at least one of those projects and all-original adventure.
