The eight-minute clip from a purported Mortal Kombat movie that surfaced earlier today has set the Internet ablaze with speculation as to what exactly the footage could be. A live-action teaser for the next Mortal Kombat videogame? A leaked clip from the “upcoming” stuck-in-development-hell Mortal Kombat film? It’s actually neither of those things, according to actress Jeri Ryan, who played the part of Sonya Blade in the video and gave out some background details on her Twitter:

Okay, so… Mortal Kombat. It’s not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film. […] I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB’s reaction to it was. And I’m not sure how you can contact WB to push them to make it. But you guys are resourceful…! šŸ˜‰

She didn’t mention who the director might be, so let’s all just hope that it isn’t Paul W. S. Anderson. And as for letting Warner Bros. — who, if you remember, obtained the Mortal Kombat license when they bought the remnants of Midway last year — know that you want this film to get made, we’re as clueless as Jeri Ryan is. Do you guys have any ideas?
