Those discounted Greatest Hits titles are something that we’ve all come to expect from Sony, and more than a few of us have found them as the perfect opportunity to supplement our game collections with some gems, that for whatever reason, we had to pass on at the time. Well, it appears that for Japanese PS3 owners at least, the time is nearly at hand.
According to IGN, a nameless Japanese online retailer has listed March 19th as the special date that the cheapskates among you can expect to find the deals you’ve been holding out for. Now aptly titled “PlayStation 3 the Best,” — is this for real? — the first round of titles are expected to fetch around 3,800 yen each, which I’m told is about $35.
Still a tad pricier than the PS2 generation, but I guess that’s a small price to pay in order to soak up and play with the Blu-rays. Anyways, they are supposed to include the following games: Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ridge Racer 7, Gundam: Target in Sight, Resistance: Fall of Man, and finally, FolkSoul.
We’re still waiting on the official word from Sony (on both fronts), but it wouldn’t be unheard of for similar deals to be found stateside, a couple of months after they hit Japan. First came the price cuts for the console, and now come the games. The Wii and Xbox 360 may be enjoying their day in the sun now, but this two-pronged attack ought to eat into that lead ever-so-slightly. One small problem though: don’t most PS3 owners have the best out of this lot already? Oh, that’s right… this is for the casuals.
