Japan looks to the VR future for Tokyo Game Show 2016

Promo art revealed

Continuing the tradition of colorful mechano-women drawn by Ippei Gyoubu, the main visual for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2016 (the 20th year!) has been revealed. It comes along with the tag line “Press Start to Play the Future” and what looks to be a VR helmet.

Thanks to Japan’s disjointed lack of a unified indie community, I’m not sure if there are bunch of neat little VR tech demos/games over there or if Sony’s hardware entry to the market has more to do with Japan’s apparent interest. Regardless, it’s quicker to nail the on-the-nose trend than last year’s, which was the first to feature a smart phone despite the long grown prominence of the mobile industry in the country.

Tokyo Game Show runs September 15 through 18 and I hope to be there covering it again, mostly because I like being taller than everyone around me.
