James Cameron may be up his own arse when he talks about how original and brilliant he thinks Avatar is, but looking at the artwork seems to indicate that it’s not quite as unique as we have been led to believe. All evidence points to Avatar having already been on the original Xbox. It was just called Azurik.

The similarities are enough for Microsoft to make a plagiarism case. Both of the games seem to be about half-naked blue men with spears who wear the exact same loincloth. Even the names are similar, with James Cameron slightly altering his to something generic in the hopes that nobody will notice his foul thievery. Fortunately, Destructoid Mike was savvy enough to spot it, and quickly informed us.

Okay, so this post is actually incredibly stupid and the similarities are vague at best. But hell, it’s 6am and you’ve got nothing better to talk about. Our review of Avatar is coming soon — for some reason, Ubisoft doesn’t want to send us review copies anymore — so stay tuned for that.

Fun fact: Azurik was the first Xbox game to feature anti-aliasing when it released 2001. The more you know!
