Is the toys to life bubble bursting? No new Disney Infinity this year

Also, sales are lower

Recommended Videos

There will be no new Disney Infinity iteration this year, according to John Vignocchi, VP of production for the series. They maintain that they’re still “number one in their category,” but sales have still dropped off, according to their latest earnings report. The same could be said for the recent Skylanders, which also didn’t perform up to its normal standard for Activision. Nintendo’s amiibo line seems to be the only healthy option at the moment, though we don’t know LEGO Dimension‘s full situation yet (but we do know it did better than Skylanders).

That doesn’t mean Disney Infinity is dropping off though, as the company is still getting behind the series. There are two new characters from Zootopia launching this week, a four player battle mode coming soon (trailer below, it’s described as “Power Stone-esque”), and more playsets are in the works. It’s a better strategy honestly, as it just means that we won’t have to buy a $60 or more starter kit every year.
