After Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax, was purchased by Microsoft, plenty wondered if games like Starfield would end up on platforms like the PlayStation 5. That question was eventually answered, of course. Starfield and many up-and-coming Bethesda games will launch only on PC and Xbox platforms. But will it be on all Xbox platforms? The game exists on the Series consoles, but is Starfield also on Xbox One?
The answer is a solid kinda.
The console generation Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 call home has been a tough one for publishers. For the most part, companies seemed hesitant to launch on only current-gen devices, opting to still release games on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It makes sense that there are some feeling unsure if Starfield ended up on Microsoft’s last-gen machine along with the PC and Series X|S consoles.
Starfield is on Xbox One, but not in the way you think
You can play Starfield on Xbox One, but only via the Xbox Cloud service. To get access, you must be an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber. It’ll provide you access to Game Pass on console, PC, and the cloud. And since it includes cloud saves, you can play Starfield on either console or PC and continue your progress wherever you left off. Playing on the cloud also means taking your Starfield save on the go with mobile platforms.
It does come with a caveat, however. I’ve played my fair share of Xbox cloud games whenever I’ve traveled, and latency can be a real buzzkill. Even in the best conditions, you’ll likely still notice a delay in your action and what happens on screen. It might not be enough to dissuade you from playing, but it’s something to keep in mind. If the delay is unacceptable, you can try getting the game to run on the Steam Deck. Good luck.
