Helldivers 2 is making a big splash in the gaming world. Even bigger than the developers imagined, as they’ve already had to upgrade their servers to handle all the players. With impressive concurrent player counts and sales numbers, it’s not surprising even more players want to get their hands on the new game. Including those who want to play on Xbox.
Can Xbox players play Helldivers 2?
Helldivers 2 is not currently on Xbox consoles, including Xbox Series X, Series S, and Xbox One. The game is only available for PlayStation consoles and PCs. Unfortunately, Xbox-only players cannot get their hands on the latest hit from Arrowhead Game Studios.
Will Helldivers 2 come to Xbox in the future?
The likelihood of Helldivers 2 ever making its way to Xbox consoles is questionable. The bug-and-robot-smashing sensation is published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Moreover, the company has historically not allowed its exclusives onto Xbox consoles before and it seems unlikely to start with Helldivers 2, considering the first Helldivers never went to Xbox either.
It’s responsible for publishing games for studios like Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica Studio, Insomniac, Sucker Punch, and much, much more. In short, Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox is about as likely as The Last of Us or God of War are to do the same.
Stephen Totilo of Game File recently asked Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer about Helldivers 2, amid a conversation about four Xbox titles coming to PlayStation consoles.
“I will say, when I look at a game like Helldivers 2 — and it’s a great game, kudos to the team shipping on PC and PlayStation — I’m not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox,” Spencer said. “If you try to twist yourself to say, like, somehow that benefited somebody somewhere. But I get it. There’s a legacy in console gaming that we’re going to benefit by shipping games and not putting them on other places. We do the same thing.”
Phil Spencer’s comments further cement the idea that he, and Microsoft Gaming as a whole, believe it benefits more people (especially players) to have games available on all platforms. Which is on display with the recent announcement of several Xbox games going to PlayStation.
Is Helldivers 2 crossplay?
Yes, Helldivers 2 is crossplay between PC and PS5 consoles. Players who own the game on either platform can play with players on the other platform. It is possible to toggle off crossplay in the settings if you don’t want to enter matchmaking with the other platform for some reason.
To disable crossplay, follow these steps:
- Open the pause menu and click on ‘Options’.
- Select ‘Gameplay’.
- Locate ‘Crossplay’.
- Select ‘Off’.
- Save your settings.
Crossplay is activated by default so you’ll have to find it and turn it off if you don’t want to use the feature. However, it’s great for Helldivers 2 players with friends playing on the other platform.
