Insomniac didn’t play it safe with the Sunset Overdrive box art

And it’s all the better for it

This week was the big blowout for Sunset Overdrive, the next game from Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac and one of the major Xbox One exclusives at this point in time. Given Sunset‘s colorful nature and the studio’s collaboration with artist Olly Moss on the Resistance 3 cover, it shouldn’t be surprising to find out the new game’s box art is similarly atypical.

The design, viewable in full below, was handled by ilovedust. There’s a lot to take in — it’s a packed composition, to be sure — but I like it. I like it substantially more than the usual art which prominently features the main character(s) and little else of substance. Insomniac has a blog post up about its intentions with the cover and other relevant details. Worth a look.
