Infinity Blade is Epic’s most profitable game

Most readers will associate Epic Games almost exclusively with Gears of War these days, but Cliffy B’s muscular man fantasy is not the company’s prime breadwinner. Those who know about pulling power of mobile gaming (or just read our headlines) will have already guessed that Infinity Blade is the one raking in all the dough. 

“The most profitable game we’ve ever made, in terms of man years invested versus revenue, is actually Infinity Blade,” stated CEO Tim Sweeney. “It’s more profitable than Gears of War.”

With its affordable price, built-in potential audience reach, and opportunities to sell in-game gold to the gullible, Infinity Blade’s success is hardly a surprise. Compared to the “AAA” games out there with their bloated budgets, it’s small wonder that so many publishers are looking at the mobile platform. 

Of course, Infinity Blade also has that one magic element that many “me too” mobile games are lacking — it’s a good game. That bit always helps.
