Importing Civilization IV maps into V will be possible

Recommended Videos

Having the opportunity to bring up Firaxis Games’ Civilization V on a regular basis is proving itself to be way more fun than it should be; hopefully I’m not wrong in thinking there are a bunch of Civ aficionados in attendance here.

Anyway, our friends at Bitmob talked to lead designer Jon Shafer about what kind of support there would be on the mod side of things. The results — as the headline would have you believe — were positive.

As Shafer briefly puts it: “You can import Civ 4 maps into the world builder and convert them into Civ 5 maps, including all the units and cities and stuff on it — the conversion process will just do that for you automatically.”

This is one of those features that makes perfect sense and is something you’d totally expect to be implemented, but isn’t always due to time or money constraints. Nice to get a confirmation, huh?
