The Wii U GamePad saga continues! First, we were told that the system wouldn’t actually support more than one out of the gate. Next, Japan was reportedly getting them as a standalone unit for roughly $172 (conversions, grain of salt and all that).

Then, we learned that Nintendo has no plans to distribute GamePads as an individual SKU for sometime outside of Japan, but Nintendo could replace them if you sent them in.

Now, we’re learning that while you can get that replacement, there of course is a fee involved (duh!). This may seem like a no brainer, but you never know. We don’t have any details yet, but once the Wii U edges closer to launch, we will.

Ostensibly, you could call up and just “buy” a GamePad for the fee, but Nintendo will probably have you send in your “broken” unit before you can swap it. Either way if you have a big dog, a little brother, or something that has the propensity to crack screens, better ready that wallet early!
