If you’re looking forward to something other than Quake, Doom or Rage from id Software, then you’ll be waiting for about a decade according to John Carmack. It seems that the studio is content to stick with its stock of monosyllabic first-person-shooters and Carmack doesn’t feel the need to create something new for the next ten years.

“We do already have more IPs than we can exploit,” he tells Official PlayStation Magazine. “I doubt we’re going to do another IP. It’s scary to say it, but maybe not in the next decade even, because we want to support Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake — and hopefully we can add Rage onto that — and I don’t want five teams here. Three is scary enough.”

So there you have it. Don’t be expecting anything new from id Software, and I guess we can safely say that today’s big game announcement isn’t going to be anything fresh.
