Yesterday, a now-removed Pastebin was full of personal data on EA Origin account holders, according to CSO Online. While most fields in the text dump were redacted or incomplete, roughly 600 Origin accounts beginning with letter A through F were compromised, listing associated Gmail addresses, passwords, and games tied to the accounts.
Former Origin community manager Sam Houston said it could be an attack to gain access to valuable accounts, or that, “this dump could just be someone targeting EA in response to something.”
EA’s senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg told Polygon, “At this point, we have no indication that this list was obtained through an intrusion of our account databases.” Regardless of how this information came to light, some peoples’ accounts were definitely compromised, though apparently only a small number of the listed accounts were still active. “In an abundance of caution, we’re taking steps to secure any account that has an EA user ID that matches the usernames on this list,” Reseburg said.
