In this guide, I’ll cover the main ways to upgrade your heroes and make them powerful.

How to level up your Heroes in DragonSword: Awakening

Leveling up is the easiest way to improve a character. When you level up a hero, you will increase its base stats. To level up a hero, you will need different Combat Texts. You can find these materials by completing quests or opening chests and more.

When you level up a hero, you will occasionally hit level caps. The first cap, for example, is at level 20. To continue improving the hero further beyond that, you will need to complete a Breakthrough. Breakthrough requires its own set of resources that can be found by grinding the game.

There are five different level caps you can break through to reach the maximum level of 80 for a hero.

Awakening is a more advanced upgrade option that you can use to max out a hero. Each hero has six different awakening levels, and you can change their playstyle, strengths, and weaknesses. For example, if you refer to the image above, you will find that Theresia has The Mace of Branding at level 1.

To awaken a hero, you will need something known as Stigma Awakened Stone. You can get one Stigma Awakened Stone in exchange for 200 Fragments of Sacred Light. Fragments of Sacred Light are obtained from Sudden Mission completions, and you will find them in plenty once you are past the early game stage.

As you might have figured out, awakening a hero for all six levels will require many resources. You should only focus on this once you have reached the mid-game. I will advise not to go for all six levels on a hero, and it’s better to spread it out across your team.

How to use Karma in DragonSword: Awakening

Applying Karma is perhaps my favorite element of upgrades in the game. Every hero has a signature weapon that they use to do damage. How the weapon works will entirely depend on the Karma you are using. You can change the traits and exclusive effect of a weapon by applying different karmas. Karmas are of two types:

  • General karmas can be obtained by using Fragment of Memory, which can be found in the Tower of Trials and Treasure Chest.
  • Exclusive karmas are locked to specific heroes, and you can obtain the required resources from Hero Quests. You can also obtain the required resources from transportation. To do so, head to Shanoa.

Each hero has specific abilities that define how they perform in battle. By upgrading these abilities, you can improve them and unlock advanced options. Upgrading a skill requires a Record of Battle.

The easiest way to obtain Record of Battle is through Hunts. After finishing the early part of the game, you can unlock Hunts that require a team of Level 20 heroes. Successfully completing these hunts rewards you with Record of Battle, and you can grind them as many times as needed.
