We’re returning to the Lion King Realm in Disney Dreamlight Valley as we reunite Simba with his two good friends, Timon and Pumbaa. You’ll notice Simba is reminiscing on memories with them, prompting you to go search for them. Here’s how to unlock Pumbaa and Timon as Dreamlight Valley villagers.

How to unlock the Lion King Realm in Disney Dreamlight Valley
If this is your first time entering the Lion King Realm, a bush of Night Thorns will initially block access. You can unlock the realm by entering Dream Castle, searching for a door with a lion icon, and paying the 10,000 Dreamlight cost to clear the thorns. Merlin will cast magic to remove the thorns, allowing you to step into the realm.

You’ll first encounter a cutscene of a pack of Hyenas watching Nala, with Simba deeper in the forest. Speaking to Nala about the situation in the Lion King Realm officially begins her story, prompting you to complete the Eyes in the Dark quest, meet up with Simba, and eventually build a home for them in your Dreamlight Valley village.
After completing this introductory quest, you’ll begin a second one, Stars to Guide Us. This mission brings you back into the Lion King Realm to help Simba, allowing him to join you and Nala in Dreamlight Valley. With all of that done, we’re ready to unlock Pumbaa and Timon.
How to find Pumbaa and Timon in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Pumbaa and Timon will emerge as villager options after you complete Nala and Simba’s Lion King Realm quests. You’ll need to unlock the realm through Dream Castle, pay its 10,000 Dreamlight fee, and complete both the Eyes in the Dark and Stars to Guide Us quests.
If you already have the Lion King Realm unlocked and Nala and Simba in your village, you’ll automatically have Pumbaa and Timon’s quests available. From here, you can access the realm by clicking Dream Castle’s map icon, going into Realms, and picking Lion King.

Once you finish both missions, search for Simba to begin the Finding Old Friends mission. If you don’t find the option immediately, make sure you have level ten friendship with Simba and Nala. Afterwards, you’ll get an objective to visit the Lion King Realm, where you’ll find both Timon and Pumbaa on a wooden log bridge. The area is also much more lush and green, which is always a nice sight to see.
You’ll start a conversation with Timon upon entering the realm and traveling to the wooden bridge. Talking to him initiates a quest line between you, him, and Pumbaa, where you’ll learn all about Hakuna Matata. During this little adventure, you’ll complete three missions related to Timon and Pumbaa:
- Finding Old Friends
- Relax!
- Where’s Pumbaa?
Once you finish these missions, Pumbaa and Timon will officially join you, Nala, and Simba in Dreamlight Valley. You’ll return to the village, where Pumbaa will automatically appear at the Plaza’s Wishing Well. After a brief chat, he’ll fetch Timon, allowing him to join Dreamlight Valley as well.
Finding Old Friends quest guide
After entering the Lion King Realm and meeting Timon and Pumbaa for the first time, Timon will initially question your relationship with Simba. Although you don’t seem dangerous to him per say, he doesn’t fully trust you or know what type of animal you are. He suggests you take some Hakuna Matata lessons, eventually leading to your first objective of locating some jungle supplies.
With this said, you’ll need to gather the following items:
- Jungle Stones (4)
- Jungle Wood (4)
- Red Jungle Leaves (4)
All three of these items spawn on the ground throughout the Realm. They’re fairly abundant, making them relatively easy to find, even if you haven’t visited the Lion King realm for a while.

After collecting each material and delivering them to Timon, he’ll create a jungle workbench for you to craft a Red Leafy Mane. Equip it before talking to him again.
With your mane equipped, follow Timon and Pumbaa to their camp before hearing more about their Hakuna Matata lesson. The conversation eventually leads to you searching for a crown, which you’ll have to fish out of the water. Before finding it, though, you’ll need an empty vial, which you can craft using three glass. The jungle has sand everywhere, so don’t worry about leaving the realm.

After crafting your vial, head toward the large pond near Timon and Pumbaa’s log bridge and start fishing to obtain a Forgotten Crown. Rather than wearing it, bring it to Timon before destroying it. While this seems like a waste of a perfectly good head accessory, there’s a deeper meaning behind it regarding leaving your past behind you. At least, that’s what Timon tells you.
Following some more dialogue between you two, he’ll give you a Bottle of Worries to toss into the river from before. You can then return to camp, arrange your bed, and have a good night’s sleep before wrapping up the Finding Old Friends quest.
Relax! quest guide
Now that we’re starting a new day in the Lion King realm, it’s time to focus on Pumbaa. The Relax quest continues directly from Finding Old Friends, with the three of you waking up and discussing what today will entail. Following this conversation, you’ll receive a new task to obtain some Palm Tree Sap and Jungle Vines.

The sap is fairly easy, as you’ll find this as thick orange goop on some nearby trees. The vines are slightly trickier, as they spawn throughout the realm as herb-like plants. Nonetheless, they look unique from other plants around the realm, making them easily identifiable compared to others nearby.

After collecting the tree sap and vines, you’ll return to Pumbaa and craft a hammock. Following some more dialogue, you’ll test out the hammock yourself before searching around the realm for Pumbaa’s favorite napping spots. It may not be as comfy as a bed at home, but at least you get to enjoy some nature.
Next up is an even more interesting objective, as Pumbaa will convince you to play around in mud. Fortunately, you don’t have to roll around in it. You just need to find some dried piles nearby and run through them before talking to Pumbaa once more.
The last part of the night is finding jungle fireflies around the camp, river, and oasis. They appear as groups of small yellow-gold lights flying around, similar to real-world fireflies. Run around and collect them before turning them into a roasted firefly meal for Pumbaa. Yum.
Now that you’ve had another fun day with Timon and Pumbaa, it’s time to wrap up the day, get some shut-eye, and wrap up Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Relax quest. That’s two pre-requisite missions done, with only one more to go.
Where’s Pumbaa? quest guide
With your second day back in the Lion King realm complete, you’ll wake up a second time to discover that Pumbaa is missing. Timon initially panics, but you two eventually relax and search for Pumbaa. You’ll find him stuck in a log back at the oasis near the realm’s entrance.
After a few conversations between the two characters, you’ll take a picture of Pumbaa stuck in the log, which, although meant to help figure out how to free him, seems a little mean without further context. At least we have good intentions.

More importantly, it’s time to find some oily bugs to help free Pumbaa. You’ll find them under rocks scattered throughout the jungle, with the river, in particular, having a few. Run around the Lion King realm and destroy rocks until you gather all four bugs.
With the bugs collected, head back to Timon to discuss your next steps. He’ll recommend cooking them down into green and orange oil before combining them, but he doesn’t remember exactly how he did this. Fortunately, all we need is some basic color theory.

![Disney Dreamlight Valley super slippery oil](https://www.destructoid.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/disney-super-slippery-oil.jpg?resize=1200%2C675)
That said, head to any nearby cooking station and make the following oil combinations:
- Red bug + Yellow bug = Orange oil
- Blue bug + Yellow bug = Green oil
- Orange oil + Green oil = Super Slippery Bug Oil
Now that you have each item, return to Timon and use your watering can to pour oil on Pumbaa. Although it helped, it doesn’t fully free him from the log, prompting you to ask Goofy for help. He gives you a plunger, but you’ll need the following items to strengthen it:
- Iron Ingots (10)
- Rope (10)
- Tourmaline (5)
- Hardwood (15)
Once you have everything, craft the reinforced plunger before returning to Timon and Pumbaa. The plunger works, and Pumbaa is now free from the log. The three of you can now wrap up the night one last time before the two feel comfortable enough to join Dreamlight Valley.
