Elden Ring: Nightreign is a unique spin on From Software’s Soulslike formula, making for a fun experience for veterans and newcomers alike.
Nightreign is a departure from previous games in how it has predetermined character classes to play as, and each has their own unique abilities, attributes, and back stories. There are eight playable characters at launch, but two are missing once you begin your journey.
Here’s how to unlock all of the playable characters in Elden Ring: Nightreign.

How to get all characters in Elden Ring Nightreign
Six of the game’s eight starting characters are available to begin with (Wylder, Guardian, Ironeye, Raider, Recluse, and Executor), while two must be unlocked via progression through the game: Duchess and Revenant. Here’s how to unlock them.
How to unlock Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign

Duchess is the first new character you can unlock. To add her to your roster of Nightfarers, you need to acquire a special item called Old Pocketwatch. This can be found as a random item on expeditions, but it’s a guaranteed drop after you defeat the first boss, Gladius, Beast of Night.
Once you have the Old Pocketwatch, return to Roundtable Hold and speak to the hooded figure to trigger a cutscene. With Duchess now unlocked, here’s what to know about her abilities and attributes:
- Attributes
- Weapon preference: Daggers
- HP: C
- FP: B
- Stamina: D
- Strength: D
- Dexterity: B
- Intelligence: A
- Faith: B
- Arcane: C

- Abilities
- Passive Ability: Magnificent Poise
- “Attack and dodge optimally, dodging repeatedly when necessary.”
- Character Skill: Restage
- “Stage reprisal of recent occurrences to damage nearby foes.”
- Ultimate Art: Finale
- “Obscure self and surrounding allies to hide from foes.”
- Passive Ability: Magnificent Poise
How to unlock Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign

Revenant is the eighth and final Nightfarer at launch, and she can be unlocked to join your expedition.
After you’ve defeated at least one Night Lord, go to the Pot Guy merchant in Roundtable Hold’s west wing, and purchase an item from him called Besmirched Frame, using the currency named Murk that you’ve acquired throughout expeditions.
Once purchased, head to the east wing of Roundtable Hold, and immediately check the corner to your left where a ghost will be standing. “Touch the Phantom” to interact with her, and you will be brought into a boss fight against Revenant.

You must defeat Revenant to unlock her as a playable Nightfarer, but her three ghost pals are in your way. I used Ironeye to spam arrows at the ghosts from afar, dodging ranged attacks from the big skeleton and staying out of range of the other two enemies, to win the battle. Once the ghosts are gone, it’s you and Revenant in a one-vs-one, so whittle her health away with arrows until she’s done.
Once you’ve won the fight and unlocked Revenant, here’s what you need to know about her kit.
