Some BitLife challenges ask you to engage with extremely rare events that are oftentimes quite tough to find. One such goal is to survive a shipwreck, which is both an uncommon and potentially deadly event.

Navigating through a shipwreck is an essential quest for the Titanic challenge and a few other feats. It’s also just a general goal you might have if you happen to find yourself in one of these dangerous encounters, so here’s how to survive a shipwreck in BitLife.

Shipwrecks are completely random in BitLife, but can happen anytime you’re out at sea. There are two different methods you can use for sailing out on the open waters:

  • Go on a Cruise. While enjoying a vacation at sea, a shipwreck could potentially happen at any point. Cruises are expensive, though, making this a tough option to repeat frequently as you’ll likely need to.
  • Obtain your own boat to sail around in. You need a boating license and a boat of your own to use this method. Generally, this option seems to be a bit easier when you want to get into a shipwreck, as it’s easier for things to go wrong when you’re on your own.

Regardless of the option you choose, you’ll likely need to head out to sea many times before you encounter a shipwreck. Luck plays a large role in how easy or tough it is to check this goal off, as you may get in a wreck on the first try, or 20 tries in, or even more than this. Keep at it as often as you can, though, and you’ll eventually find yourself in a perilous shipwreck situation.

For this goal, I’ve found that buying and using your own boat works best, as this allows you to avoid ship maintenance, which then increases your chances of something going wrong. It’s also a lot cheaper, as you can buy a fairly inexpensive boat, then take it out as often as you like with no additional fees, whereas taking cruises costs quite a lot.

How do you survive a shipwreck in BitLife?

To survive a shipwreck, choose whichever option seems most likely to guarantee your safety. Every shipwreck pop-up is unique, so it’s tough to know exactly what you’ll encounter. Some of them do generally have similar choices, though, so there are a few options that are safer bets than others.

Generally, the best option you can choose to survive a shipwreck is Abandon Ship. In my experience, this has the best odds of survival. You might be tempted to select Call the Coast Guard instead, but this has never worked when I’ve tried it, resulting in my character always dying and not living through the shipwreck.

You should never select any option that mentions going down with the ship, as this will always lead to death. Attempting to get your ship back to shore also usually won’t work out the way you want, as you won’t survive a shipwreck if the ship makes it back in one piece, and if you fail, you’ll likely die while trying.

Surviving a shipwreck is one of the toughest parts of the Titanic challenge, so if you’re already working on this goal, you might consider checking out the other tasks you need to get done for that trial, too, as you’re already done with one. Another tough goal featured in it asks you to learn how to swim.
