How to summon a chicken jockey in Minecraft (Java and Bedrock)

Calm down, we won't repeat the quote.

Although a staple of the franchise, the chicken jockey is one of the rarest mobs in Minecraft. But don’t worry, as with everything in the game, forcing the enemy to appear is just a matter of knowing the right commands.

To help you bring the meme to life, here’s how to summon a chicken jockey in both the Java and Bedrock versions of Minecraft.

How to summon a chicken jockey in Minecraft (Java & Bedrock)

You can summon a chicken jockey in the Java version of Minecraft by opening the game’s text window and typing the following code: /summon chicken ~ ~ ~ {Passengers:[{id:zombie,IsBaby:1}]}. For those playing on Bedrock, the process will be slightly different, as you must summon the chicken and their zombie rider separately with the below:

  • /summon chicken
  • /ride @e[type=chicken,c=1] summon_rider zombie minecraft:as_baby

You can enable the use of command codes in all Minecraft versions by either selecting the option when creating your world or pausing your game and then toggling on Enabling Cheats. If not a moderator, you will only be able to use codes on a multiplayer server after being given permission, no matter your version of choice.

Even if you cannot control them in the same way as you can horses or the like, Minecraft Java players can ride a chicken and become a chicken jockey by following the steps below:

  • Point your cursor in the direction of any chicken.
  • Open the in-game text window and add /ride, [your name], mount, and then the code for the chicken. You must keep the cursor over the chicken for the code to appear.

To make sure you can keep the chicken in place while typing the command, I recommend building a fence around it. If you were wondering, the rider code can indeed be used to mount a wide array of other living beings in the game. Just don’t expect them to be as easy to pinpoint.

Now that you know how to summon the chicken jockey so you can reenact your favorite scenes and add both the Jack Black version of Steve and Jason Momoa’s Garett to your game, don’t forget to also check out how to unlock all character skins in A Minecraft Movie DLC.
