How to split stacks in Nightingale

To begin with, your character in Nightingale can’t carry much and when you’re gathering resources this can soon leave you weighed down by your inventory. It’s normal, perhaps even expected, to pick up everything you see ‘just in case’, but that can cause weight issues very quickly. 

Splitting items into smaller stacks is a staple of survival games, but it’s a little complicated to do in Nightingale. You can’t simply split stacks within your inventory, they can only be split when transferring items into a chest or kindling into a campfire. 

How to split stacks into storage

To split stacks, interact with a storage item – the Angling Basket is a good first choice for this, needing only 10 Plant Fiber to make and storing 15 stacks of items – before selecting whatever item you want to transfer from your inventory.

Once you’ve selected a stack, click “Move to Container” at the bottom of the window and a pop-up will appear. In this pop-up box, there will be a slider that can be moved in order to dictate how many items from your stack will end up in the storage item. You can also hold down shift and drag the item into the storage inventory, which will bring up the same slider. 

How to split stacks into the Campfire

Moving items into the Campfire works in the same way, either by selecting an item and pressing “Add Selected” or holding Shift and dragging the item over. Either way, you’ll get the same slider window in order to select how many items you want to transfer. 

Bear in mind that this only works for items that can be used as kindling, such as Sticks and Plant Fiber. As long as you don’t ignite your Campfire, these items will be stored for use later on.

If you have no other option and a surplus of resources while out exploring, the best thing to do with an overflowing inventory is turn your items into Essence by right clicking on them within your inventory and selecting “Extract”.
