Of course the Resident Evil 4 remake has ample puzzles to suss out, and some of them take a different approach compared to the original. Here’s how to easily solve the combination lock puzzle in the Village Chief Manor; just past the valley sequence, in Chapter 2.

Check out the book in the upstairs hallway to get the answer key

The book has all the answers you need. You can find it in the upstairs hallway, and all of the answers are labeled with green text. Take this knowledge downstairs and into the small hallway near the kitchen.

Or, you can just use the above image as a reference.

Enter the combination

The puzzle solution is as follows, from left to right:

  • Grain (crop)
  • Pig (don’t get it confused with the other livestock picture)
  • A baby (babe)

The full visual depiction of each correct piece of the lock can be found in the image directly above.

Use the item within on the door in the upstairs hallway

After solving the puzzle and initiating the lock, you’ll get a Crystal Marble.

Take the Crystal Marble upstairs to open the master bedroom in the Village Chief Manor. After you open the desk and take the key a cutscene will play, and the chapter will end (you’ll get to save before starting the next chapter).
