The Return on Investment 1 contract is a priority task from the Traxus faction that takes place on the Dire Marsh map in Marathon.

Unlike most contracts available in the game, Return on Investment 1 has just one task in reality. However, there’s a bit of exploration to be done, and this guide will help you find what you’re looking for. Once done, you’ll also need to exfil successfully to complete the contract.

Here are the two tasks that are part of the first Return on Investment contract.

  • Scan the secured containers in the Algae Ponds basement
  • Exfil

For this task, head to the Algae Ponds location on Dire Marsh. You’ll come across the main building (refer to the image below), but don’t enter it. Instead, enter the small building opposite it. Head inside, and go towards the end. You’ll find a small door that you’ll need to crawl through.

If you’re confused about what the doorway looks like, refer to the image below. Go through, and you’ll find a ladder to drop down. You can also access this ladder from the roof of the building if you seek an alternate route.

Use the ladder and drop down to find four containers to scan. There’s no correct order for scanning the containers. All four containers are at the same location, and they will be highlighted by the quest marker. Complete the scans for all four, and the first task will be done.

The only thing left will be to exfil successfully. If you fail to exfil, you’ll need to restart the contract from the start. On my run, UESC enemies popped up when I completed the scan. I am unsure if this is random (my friend didn’t face the same problem), but it’s best to prepare for incoming fire either way.
